Elbow Underestimations

It's a funny thing -
How an elbow can change your world in an instant.

Taking the wind out of your sails.
(And you were sailing).

Shoving you into that dark, familiar place.
(You hadn't visited there in awhile, and you hadn't missed it).

Bringing words and voices to your head and mouth.
(You thought you had learned a new language).

Hope fades...
for the longest moment.

This elbow -
Broken, bruised, and bandaged -
Just kicked you off your feet.

Never underestimate the elbow.

  1. But you have learned a new language Karla. This is an unfortunate but temporary setback. It will be easier this time to get on an even keel and the wind back in your sails. I believe in you!

    You are stong.
    You are loved.
    You will conquer the elbow.

  2. i believe with corina! you have overcome so many many times and although it may be a tiring thought to sail again, you WILL because karla penner is more than a conqueror. you are inspiration to so many of us... when you fall we uplift you in prayer and support; when you rise, we rejoice with you. many many hugs - wish i could tuck you in bed with an awesome book and make you a tasty london fog!

  3. Thanks, guys. I am on the up-swing. Last week was very dark, but I can see past it now. Very thankful for that.

  4. I really wish I was in a place to come to your house and make muffins and stuff for the freezer and dust all those crazy places that you think you never dust and then you realize, when something is broken, that you actually DO get to that spot now and then.

  5. This makes me think of what we were going through a year ago. Thankfully, Chris has healed and so will you - body, mind and spirit! I will never underestimate an elbow again. Thanks for the reminder not to take our health for granted.

  6. don't be fooled by dusty old voices that you've already outgrown. They pop up like nasty apparitions, but that doesn't make them real.
